Privacy Policy

1. Overview

layrd is a photography editing app. This policy explains what data is processed when you use the app, website, subscriptions, analytics, support, and waitlist forms.

2. Photos and Editing Data

Your photos, masks, depth maps, text layers, templates, previews, project files, and exports are processed locally on your device. We do not upload your photos to our servers for editing, masking, depth estimation, rendering, or export, and we do not use your photos to train AI models.

If you export or share a file, that file is sent only to the destination you choose, such as your photo library, file system, browser download, or a third-party app selected from the share sheet.

3. Local Storage and Project Files

layrd stores recent projects, saved templates, cached AI model files, color history, subscription cache state, your usage analytics choice, your crash-reporting preference, and related app settings on your device using browser storage, IndexedDB, Cache API, Capacitor Filesystem, or similar platform storage. You can delete projects and exported files from your device.

4. Permissions

Camera: used when you take a new photo inside the app.
Photo Library / Media: used to select images, preserve non-location camera metadata when possible, and save photo or video exports. Hidden GPS/location metadata is not included in JPEG exports unless you enable the GPS export option.
Files: used to import images or project JSON files and to save project backups or exports.
Share: used to open the native or web share sheet when you choose to share exports.

5. Network Requests and Third-Party Services

Although image editing is local-first, layrd may make these network requests:

Local AI model downloads: Model files required for depth and subject separation are downloaded as needed from third-party content-delivery services and cached on your device. Your photos, canvas content, and project data are not included in these requests.
RevenueCat: native iOS and Android subscriptions are verified and managed through RevenueCat. RevenueCat receives purchase receipts, entitlement status, and related subscription identifiers. Payment card details are handled by Apple or Google, not by layrd.
PostHog usage analytics: only after you opt in, we collect product interaction events such as which features or template categories are used, whether an export completes, and which app surface initiated an action. Events may include technical context such as app version, platform, device type, browser, and a randomly generated analytics identifier. Production session recording and automatic interaction capture are disabled. We do not intentionally send photos, canvas contents, project text, filenames, EXIF metadata, or precise location to PostHog.
Sentry crash and performance reporting: when Sentry is configured, crash and performance reporting is enabled by default so we can detect failures and improve reliability. Reports may include error messages, stack traces, technical file or module names, app version, device type, operating system, browser, platform, and performance timing. We do not intentionally attach photos, canvas contents, project files, or project text. You can disable future Sentry reporting at any time in Settings.
Google Fonts: optional Google Fonts can be loaded on demand. Font requests may send the font family requested and your IP address to Google.
Map and metadata templates: exact photo GPS coordinates remain on your device. For templates that display a map, layrd locally reduces available photo coordinates to the nearest city and may request city-level geocoding or map tiles from OpenStreetMap, Nominatim, and CartoCDN. Precise photo coordinates are not included in those network requests. If you choose a visible location template, city, country, or coordinate text may be rendered directly into the exported image design.
Website forms: landing-page waitlist and contact forms may be submitted through Formspree and include the email address and message you provide.

6. Purchases and Pro Features

layrd Pro purchases are processed through Apple App Store or Google Play and managed by RevenueCat. We use subscription and entitlement data to unlock Pro features such as higher-resolution exports, premium templates, advanced text tools, font options, and animated exports.

7. Analytics, Diagnostics, and Advertising

PostHog usage analytics are off by default. PostHog does not initialize until you choose “Allow” in the in-app analytics prompt or enable “Share Usage Analytics” in Settings. You can withdraw that choice at any time; disabling analytics stops future PostHog events and resets the app's local PostHog identity.

Sentry crash and performance reporting is enabled by default when the service is configured. This operational diagnostics setting is separate from PostHog consent. You can turn off “Crash & Performance Reporting” in Settings at any time, after which new Sentry error and performance events are filtered out.

We use PostHog analytics to understand aggregate feature usage and improve layrd, and Sentry diagnostics to maintain app reliability. We do not use either service for third-party advertising, cross-app advertising tracking, or data-broker profiling, and we do not sell personal data or photos.

8. Retention and Deletion

Projects, preferences, and cached model files remain on your device until you delete them, clear app data, or uninstall layrd. PostHog analytics and Sentry diagnostics are retained under the retention settings configured for those services and only for as long as reasonably needed to analyze product usage, diagnose problems, maintain security and reliability, and meet legal obligations. RevenueCat retains purchase and entitlement records as needed to provide purchases, restore access, meet accounting obligations, and comply with law.

Changing a Settings toggle stops the applicable future collection but does not automatically delete events already received. To request deletion of identifiable analytics, diagnostic, support, or purchase-related data, follow the steps on our Data Deletion Request page. Some anonymous or aggregated records may not be linkable to you, and store transaction records may be retained by Apple or Google under their policies and legal obligations.

9. Children's Privacy

layrd is not directed to children under 13. We do not knowingly collect personal information from children.

10. Changes

We may update this policy from time to time. Material changes will be reflected in the app or on this page.
